“The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.” Revelation 22:21
This is the last verse of the Bible and, perhaps, the most precious verse of the Bible because of what it reminds us of.
Throughout the book of Revelation, Jesus exhorts the churches to persevere until the end and to endure until He returns. Every believer is to conquer by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony (Revelation 12:11). The church is to run the race, finish the course, and receive it’s reward - a new heaven and earth, the dwelling place of God with man (Rev. 21:3).
But it won't be easy. Along the way there will be trial and tribulation; persecution and suffering; false christ’s, false prophet’s and false teachers; increasing lawlessness and temptation; fear and confusion; repentance from sin; a return from worshipping idols to worshipping Jesus; a rekindling of lukewarm love; a reigniting of passion and zeal; a remembering of the true gospel; a refilling of power and boldness to preach; and a renewing of faithfulness to the Word of God.
All of this is why the last and final words of this weighty exhortation are so important for us to remember. And what are they? “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.” Grace, not works. Grace, not try harder or be better. Grace.
All our endurance, all our perseverance, all our repentance, all our worship, all our love, all our works, all our passion, all our power, all our boldness, all our faithfulness - our whole life - from beginning to end, is by grace, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
