When my children are hungry they immediately tell me. When I’m hungry I don’t usually tell my children, unless I can’t happen to find the Oreos. But otherwise I don’t need to tell them.
My wife says that she can tell when I’m hungry by the look on my face.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.” (Psalm 50:12)
God doesn’t have to tell us anything. He’s under no external obligation or coercion. He has no internal need nor internal desire that must be satisfied.
So when God does speak to us, it’s because He wants to and it’s because we need Him to.
We have needs that only God can fill and desires that only God can satisfy. He welcomes us to speak and to pray to Him. He doesn't exclude us; He includes us. He invites us to know Him – to see, to hear, to understand. He draws us in to all that He’s doing for us and for others; with us and within us; through us and around us.
